Terms and conditions

It is important that you read and accept the IELTS test terms and conditions when you register for the test.

You also receive the terms and conditions in the Notice to Candidates (PDF 93kb), which is included with the application form.

The terms and conditions contain important information, including details of:

  • Test day arrangements
  • What you can take into the test room
  • The rules you need to follow
  • Test security
  • What you can expect from the results process
  • Cancellations process
  • How we use your information

When you sign the declaration in the application form you are confirming that you have read and understood the IELTS test terms and conditions and agree to abide by them.

Please note:

Security at IELTS tests is important to us.

As an added measure, all participants will be required to have their photograph taken by IELTS administrative staff on their test day. Please make sure that you review the photograph instructions supplied to you after you have booked your test.

Please bring your original ID/Passport document to the test. This must be the original of the same ID/Passport document as the one you used to complete your online application. If you cannot provide this document, you will not be allowed to take your IELTS test and your test fee will not be refunded. Photocopies of your IDs/Passports are not accepted.

In case your ID/Passport document has changed after your online registration you should notify us in advance sending us your new ID/Passport document colour scan to exams@britishcouncil.be.

Amendment of test module

Illness on the test day

If you are ill on the test day we need the originals of the following documents from you within five working days of the test date:

If we have not received both the required documentation by the fifth working day after the test, you will be marked as absent and forfeit all claims. You can send the scanned copies by email, but the originals must be sent by post.

If both documents reach us within the deadline, you have two options:

  • a full refund of the test fee, less an administration charge of 40 EUR
  • a single transfer to a new test date (within three months of the original test date)

Candidates who receive a transfer to a new test date (either before the test or due to illness) and who are ill on the second test date are not entitled to a refund of the test fee nor to any further transfer to a new test date.

Please note that refunds can take up to 6 weeks to process.
