The British Council is preparing to reopen IELTS exams gradually, in line with the slow easing of government restrictions. Your health and safety is our top priority. We therefore adhere to the ministry of health guidelines, which states that a candidate must have 4m² of space to him or herself. This affects the number of candidates who can take an exam at our venues at any time.

Due to the latest colour coding system of Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, some of our staff are required to self-quarantine before entering Brussels/Belgium, thus preventing them from holding Speaking tests. This new regulation might affect upcoming exam dates and communication will be sent to candidates, albeit a little later than usual, as we are trying till the last minute to find alternatives.

You can still register for computer-delivered IELTS sessions in October and November.

As highlighted we are continuously monitoring the guidelines. If the situation changes, we will adapt our approach and inform any candidates who are affected. To help prepare for your IELTS exam visit our free resources.

Please note our offices are closed, but you can still contact us at

Response time might be longer than usual due to the circumstances. We are grateful for your patience and understanding and will be in touch as soon as possible.

Best wishes,

British Council Belgium
